Benue State Smart Education Programme

Expanding access to quality education through technology and innovation.

Preparing for activation
Illustrative practical setting for Benue State Smart Education Programme

BENUE-SEP connects school management, teaching, learning, educator development, devices and infrastructure through one coordinated education programme.

It operates under the Smart Benue Initiative within Innovate Benue, coordinated by CIE Benue State in cooperation with relevant institutions and delivery partners.

Eight connected components

Preparing for effective adoption

Initial activities will prioritise school readiness, practical educator development, onboarding and support for sustained use. Participation will expand in phases according to institutional arrangements, resources and delivery capacity.

Who can express interest?

School representatives, educators, education institutions, technical providers and prospective partners can contact the coordination team.

Does an expression of interest confirm participation?

No. It begins a conversation. Cohort selection, eligibility, availability and any costs will be communicated before participation is confirmed.

Are laptops provided free of charge?

The laptop initiatives may use purchase, financing, provision or sponsorship arrangements. An expression of interest does not create a free-device entitlement. Any offer will state its actual terms.

How does this connect to SEMS?

SEMS is the operational school-management component. BENUE-SEP also includes educator development, virtual learning, device access, laboratories, resources and infrastructure.

Our programme definition

The Benue State Smart Education Programme is a strategic programme designed to expand access to quality education for all learners in Benue State through the effective use of digital educational technologies, capable educators, inclusive learning resources and sustainable supporting infrastructure.

Benefits for the education community

Learners gain pathways to relevant resources and learning beyond the classroom. Educators gain practical tools and professional support. School leaders gain better information and more coordinated administration. Families gain opportunities to support learning at home, while education institutions can improve oversight through appropriate reporting.

The first phase

The initial emphasis is on readiness, school onboarding, practical educator training and activation of essential management and learning workflows. Device, laboratory and infrastructure interventions will be matched to assessed needs, available resources and agreed delivery arrangements.

School participation in four steps

1. An authorised school representative submits an expression of interest. 2. The coordination team reviews needs, existing infrastructure and institutional readiness. 3. The school and delivery team agree scope, responsibilities, support and any costs. 4. Onboarding is followed by practical use, coaching and progress reviews.

Inclusion and responsible implementation

Delivery planning considers rural access, affordability, accessibility and unreliable power or connectivity. Learner information belongs in authorised school systems with appropriate access controls. This public website collects institutional enquiries; it does not collect children’s records.

What successful adoption looks like

Reviews will distinguish systems made available from systems used regularly. Relevant measures include active school workflows, educator participation, use of learning resources, support resolution and the ability to sustain operating costs. Baselines and delivery targets will be agreed for each phase.
